Introduction to HiBy MSEB
MSEB is a multi-dimensional audio tuning system developed by HiBy, based on the PEQ core. It focuses on auditory stylization, vocal/detail refinement, and dynamic & transient control, offering a closer "tuner-level" sound shaping than ordinary 10-band EQ.
Core Positioning and Principles
- Essence: A hearing-oriented parametric tuning engine, not just a simple EQ, but an integrated processing of multiple dimensions including tone warmth/coolness, vocal position, sibilance, transients, air sense, and bass texture.
- Core: Based on PEQ (Parametric Equalization) and dynamic algorithms, supporting saving/loading custom MSEB presets.
- Limitations: Does not support DSD / MQA output; only valid for PCM, with no sampling rate restrictions.
Complete Adjustable Parameters (Classified by Hearing Experience)
1. Overall Temperature
- Function: Controls the overall warm/cool tendency of the audio tone
- Options: Cool/Bright – more transparent high frequencies and enhanced resolution; Warm/Dark – thicker midrange, smoother bass, and more comfortable listening
2. Bass Extension
- Function: Adjusts the depth of bass extension
- Options: Light, Deep – choose the degree of bass extension as needed
3. Bass Texture
- Function: Optimizes the auditory texture of bass to avoid muddiness or thinness
- Options: Fast – tight and non-lingering bass; Thumpy – full and resilient bass
4. Note Thickness
- Function: Adjusts the fullness of audio notes, affecting the overall thickness of the sound
- Options: Crisp – crisp and transparent notes for a clear texture; Thick – full and heavy notes for enhanced warmth
5. Voice
- Function: Controls the front/rear position of vocals in the overall audio
- Options: Recessed/Crisp – vocals blend into background music; Forward/Radio Edit – prominent upfront vocals for clarity
6. Female overtones
- Function: Targeted optimization of female vocal timbre, solving harshness and sibilance issues
- Options: Detoxed – reduces harsh sibilance and grain in female vocals; Intoxicating – enhances transparency and vividness of female vocals
7. Sibilance LF
- Function: Specifically controls sibilance in the low-frequency band, reducing dullness or harshness
- Options: Soft and Crisp – adjust attenuation via slider to reduce low-frequency sibilance interference as needed
8. Sibilance HF
- Function: Specifically controls sibilance in the high-frequency band, solving harsh vocal/instrument high-frequency sibilance
- Options: Soft and Crisp – adjust attenuation via slider to balance high-frequency resolution and harshness
9. Impulse Response
- Function: Controls the transient response speed of audio, affecting sound sharpness and musicality
- Options: Slow/Musical – soft transients, strong musicality, suitable for vocals and pop; Fast/Hard – fast transients, high resolution, suitable for classical, electronic and other detail-demanding genres
10. Air
- Function: Adjusts spatial sense and high-frequency extension, improving transparency and openness
- Options: Soft – natural and gentle spatial sense; Crisp – better high-frequency extension, wider spatial sense, clearer resolution
Differences from Ordinary EQ
| Dimension | Ordinary 10-band EQ | MSEB |
|---|---|---|
| Adjustment Logic | Gain/attenuation at frequency points | Hearing dimensions (warmth/coolness, vocals, transients, air sense) |
| Professionalism | Basic equalization | Comprehensive tone + dynamics + spatial shaping |
| Usability | Requires frequency knowledge | Intuitive sliders, what you see is what you hear |
| Saving | Saves EQ curves | Saves complete MSEB style presets |
| Application Scene | Frequency response correction | Style shaping, vocal optimization, listening experience enhancement |
